Community Competition 2016
FLORAL GUERNSEY COMMUNITY COMPETITION 2016 AWARDS
The five Bailiwick parishes and islands taking part in this year's Floral Guernsey Community Competition have been recognised for their achievements at this year’s awards evening. Sark Community Blooms secured the overall winning place with a GOLD AWARD and the prestigious Lady Dorey Trophy with Floral Forest, Floral St Andrews and Herm Island all securing SILVER GILT AWARDS and Floral St Saviours a SILVER AWARD.
'Despite the mixed weather earlier this summer, the parishes and islands put a great show on for this year's judging in early July. We observed how much the youth groups and schools were involved and how knowledge was being passed down through the generations which bodes well for future years. We were delighted by the variety of volunteers, young to old creating special places for the residents and visitors to enjoy, looking after and restoring the islands heritage as well as conserving the wildlife on the island' says Senior UK Judge, Sue Wood.
John Woodward, Vice- Chairman, Floral Guernsey Foundation, adds:- ' It is very rewarding to see so many hard working, dedicated volunteers being recognised for all their efforts. We look forward to seeing the overall winner accepting our invitation to represent the Bailiwick of Guernsey (or in other words the ' Islands of Flowers ' ) in next year's RHS Britain in Bloom National Finals'.
