Purple Crocus

All around the parishes and islands beautiful purple crocus are starting to appear.

This is thanks to a joint venture sponsored by Appleby's in conjunction with Floral Guernsey and Purple4Polio.

Crocus Planting

Huge thanks to Bernie's Gardening Services for stepping up to plant 35,000 purple crocus corms (corms sponsored by Appleby). 

This is part of a joint project by Rotary Club of Guernsey, Rotary Guernesiais and Floral Guernsey to help raise the profile of the Rotary International End Polio Now campaign. 

St Andrew's Floral Group/GSPCA win two conservation awards

St Andrew’s Floral Group / GSPCA were delighted and shocked to receive not just one but two awards at the Insurance Conservation Awards on 15th June.

We were overwhelmed to receive the Runner-Up Award with £1000  for landscaping works in the grounds of the Animal Shelter to attract more diverse wildlife and improve the environment for animals in care.  The overall and well-deserved  winner was Alderney Bird Observatory, the newest and most southerly observatory in the British Isles.

A Poison Garden to be set up at the GSPCA - St. Andrew's Floral Group

Dog owner Ginny Heaume was left devastated when her two cockers, Macy, 11, and Tally, 9, died suddenly after eating a castor oil plant.

Mrs Heaume, who has owned dogs for 30 years, said the plant had been gifted to the family by a gardener friend.

They were unaware it was so toxic, but when her two dogs had an upset tummy, she believed they were drawn to the plant because it contained laxative properties.

‘They would normally be attracted to grass, but we had no grass in the doggy area.

Enhancement of the Halfway Triangle

Halfway Enhancement. 

As part of Floral Guernsey's initiative to tackle areas of the Bailiwick that need improvement we carried out a major transformation of the triangle by the halfway filter.
